2014 Home Sweet Home

Most of you know we lost our senses, exactly when you may not remember but we went Loco and decided we could build a Log House. We went to a two day seminar to learn how, yes, that is as dumb as it sounds. We had property in Southwest Colorado that looked like this.
In May 2012 I moved there and began to remove trees. Jen joined me in June and we began construction of our new home. By Christmas we had the walls up, a roof, and we began working inside. It looked something like this. Notice, there are no doors or windows, the gable ends are open and it was cold inside. Each morning we waited in our RV for the temperature to rise to 20 degrees, then we dressed in our old ski clothes and went to work. Sometime in the afternoon, usually around 4 pm the temps dropped back to the uncomfortable level and we called it a day.

By New Years 2014 we had moved in. All the cracks were chinked, the ends were covered although not finished, the doors and windows were all cut and installed. You can see the RV we lived in for 18 months behind the house. Grandson Soren is being held here by his Dad, Derek Beckman.
This is what the house looks like today, January 1, 2015. All the outside is finished. There are decks full length on two sides. (Well we do have to put a rail on the deck and we still want to build a garage/workshop)  I will show you in the next post how the inside has changed.
On this first day of a new year we are very thankful that we have a beautiful home and the really hard work is behind us. We believe that God has blessed us even in our foolish ness. We have new aches and pains and many of the old ones are worse. One of our resolutions for January 2015 is to visit the chiropractor.

If you are ever in the Durango, Cortez, Mesa Verde area, we would love to see friends. Please plan to stop by.
